In January 2024, SAI Czech Republic held the fifth Hackathon, which was attended for the first time by students who won regional student tournaments.
50 students participated in the hackathon, consisting of 13 competitive teams. Open data for the event was presented by 12 state institutions.
The participants were faced with the traditional task of creating new applications or projects for widespread use based on open data within 24 hours.
Participants could either refine and improve their regional round competition project, or start a completely new project based on the proposed data sets submitted by the organizer.
The first place in the regional tour project development category was taken by the web application “School Plus”, which aims to inform parents about the availability of a kindergarten for their child. The app can compare individual institutions, recommend choosing a suitable one, and notify you about the object’s transport and infrastructure availability.
Prizes were also awarded to the “Tourist” app, which combines historical, cultural and natural destinations and monuments, and the “Craft Golden Bottom” project, which helps you choose the best school for your student’s abilities and helps you decide on the right field of study.
The winner in the category on project development on the site was the application “Can I be here?”. The user can easily find out about the rules, restrictions and penalties in the specified location (alcohol consumption, garbage disposal, car parking). The app can also answer the questions “where?”, for example, where is the nearest charger for an electric car or a garbage container.
Also in this category, the winners were the “Ears for the Soul” app, which informs about the presence of school psychologists and offers help to children, and the app with the telling name: “One click Doctor”.
