SAIs of Portugal and Spain Strengthen Interagency Cooperation

SAIs of Portugal and Spain announced their intention to strengthen cooperation between the institutions.
After a two-day meeting in Lisbon attended by representatives of both countries, an agreement was reached on the regular exchange of experience and joint audits.
The meeting emphasized the importance of protecting the principles of independence of supreme audit institutions, which are set out in the Mexican Declaration of supreme audit institutions.
The parties noted that strong SAIs play a key role in ensuring the proper spending of budget funds and combating corruption.
