Dr. Dastgheib’s Re-election as the President of SAI Iran by an Unprecedented Vote of the Parliament

At the beginning of the new term of the Iranian Parliament on 24 July 2024, Dr. Seyed Ahmadreza Dastgheib, the incumbent President of the Supreme Audit Court of Iran (SAI Iran, SAC) and the ECOSAI President, won 211 votes out of 272 votes cast by the Members of the Iranian Parliament and accordingly was re-elected as the President of SAC for a four-year term 2024 – 2028.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Dastgheib holds Postdoc in Economic Law and Ph.D. in Political Science and he has had important responsibilities in the Parliament, including Member of the Presidium of the Parliament, Advisor to the Speakers of the Parliament, Deputy Chairman of the Integration Commission of the Parliament, Deputy Chairman of Internal Regulation Commission of the Parliament and Member of the Article 90 of the Constitution Commission.

In this position Dr. Dastgheib will continue strengthening the role of SAC in the good governance development to ensure the efficient audit and oversight of the use of budget. Thus, special attention will be paid to the employees professional training and capacity building.

Apart from that, SAC will proceed with its active involvement into the experience and best practices exchange within international audit community with the use, among others, of the Digital University for the INTOSAI Community (U-INTOSAI).
